Can We All Just Be Honest With Ourselves And Admit That Red Bean In Dessert Is A Travesty?

Y’all lying.

I’ll just get right to it. There is a time and place for everything, and for red bean, specifically, that is NEVER IN DESSERT. People like to sneak red bean into mochi, halo halo, matcha roll cakes, and we’ve all been taking it. Never questioning its presence in our sweet treats, but now is the time for honest reflection—do you actually like red bean or have you been conditioned to think that it’s merely tolerable in dessert? Because I’ve never heard anyone speak these words out loud: “WOW, RED BEAN IS SO GOOD AND REALLY COMPLEMENTS THE TARTNESS OF STRAWBERRY” or “HOLY SHIT YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MATCHA PARFAIT REALLY NEEDS? A BIG GLOP OF BEAN PASTE!”

Please. We can be the change we want to see in the world by collectively taking a stand against red bean in dessert. Maybe our parents didn’t have the bravery to speak their truth, and that’s okay, because they were afraid of losing their cultural identity in America. But we know who we are, and we know that red bean in dessert is a big ‘ole nope.

🙅🏻‍♀️

This was just a personal rant about a food that I dislike. Please don't take me too seriously! On an actual serious note, we have been seeing a surge in AAPI hate, and if you'd like to donate toward an organization that is committed to analyzing the data of hate crimes/discrimination and working with communities and leaders to create change, please consider doing that here. Thank you.

thank you, love you, xoxo ✨
